The engine, with nine empty mineral wagons and three water tanks for Middleton, was diverted into the station siding in error and ran through the block stop. Driver John Harrison and Fireman Wm Dove baled out and were unhurt but the two elderly sisters who occupied Station House had to be treated for shock. 0-4-0 Well Tank built by Geo. England & Co. of Hatcham Ironworks in 1857 for the Sandy & Potton Rly. It was taken over by the LNWR in October 1862 and numbered 1104. After being used in Crewe Works for 15 years it was sold to Wantage Tramway in May 1878 as "Shannon".
On August 12th 1863 the LNWR sent the locomotive to Ladmanlow on the Cromford & High Peak Railway. It was politely returned to Longsight eleven days later as 'unsuitable'. The engine is just short of the bridge over the Cromford to Wirksworth road and the Killer's Branch can be seen diverging to the left near the wall. The right-hand line is the Steeplehouse Station siding. This engine was formerly MR & LMS No.1536.0-4-0T No.41536 at Steeplehouse.
