Birmingham, Worcester Bar, 1971
In the area now known as Gas Street Basin, Worcester Bar was a physical barrier preventing boats passing between the Worcester & Birmingham Canal and the original Birmingham Canal, later part of the Birmingham Canal Navigations, until 1815 when a stop lock was built. The Birmingham & Midland Canal Carrying Co’s butty "Argo" is amongst several working boats. The original Birmingham Canal terminus was to the left of the bar where the new building is being constructed.
