Fens Moss: raising the embankment (2014)

This section of canal has repeatedly suffered from subsidence. In 1868 120 yards of the towpath side were carried away. There was a further breach during the First World War, but that was blamed on the excessive use of the towpath in connection with a nearby shooting range. (2 June 2014)

Trevor Basin: trackwork (2014)

This trackwork is the fantasy of a British Waterways landscape architect. The Ruabon Brook Railway, which had canalside tracks here from 1805 until the 1860s, used plateway rails not edge rails (that is, the flange was on the rails not on the wheels) and had a gauge of 4ft 2in, not the narrow gauge shown.
