Alexandra Colliery (also referred to as Wyken New Colliery), off Deedmore Road, Coventry, looking north from the end of the arm.A reviewer remembers it in the 1950's as a young boy who spent hours fishing there. The houses shown on the photos were not yet built and look like those in Orion Crescent, and the three chimneys in the far background on the left are those of Coventry Power Station. Taken from Bridge 9 (Stone Bridge) looking in the direction of Hawkesbury. Specifically, this was a loop of the canal replaced in the 1834 shortening but retained as it gave access to the colliery arm. The bed has since been infilled and the bridge removed. It was one of the many Horseley cast iron bridges over the old loops that still had some traffic. The ironwork of the bridge was reused to create a bridge over the River Sherbourne at Spon End in Coventry.
