Oxford Road, Reading. During construction of the north-south "Inner Distribution Road" (A329)
Grid reference SU710734. The new road was being built (see crane in picture) to pass under Oxford Road. Cars and other traffic could be diverted away, but not the trolleybuses. The wires in both directions were deviated to the north side of the road over a single lane with traffic lights. The trolleybus driver pressed a button on the middle pole to change the lights in his favour. The occasional diesel bus driver was also known to sneak through as well. The trolleybuses were not to remain much longer when the photo was taken. A couple of routes had already ceased, one being the Caversham Road and Stations service, as some of Caversham Road was being absorbed into the new road. The last Reading trolleybus ran on 03 November 1968 (information from Tony Jervis)
