The Metropolitan and Great Central Joint Railway was formed on 2 April 1906, and took over the Metropolitan Railway's 41½ mile line from Harrow-on-the-Hill in NW London to Verney Junction in Buckinghamshire (MCJ2), and the branches from Chalfont & Latimer to Chesham (CMR), and from Quainton Road to Brill. Regular passenger services on the line north of Aylesbury ended on 4 March 1963, but were reintroduced to Aylesbury Vale Parkway as from 15 December 2008.
Quainton Road has been the home of an heritage railway, currently the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, since 1969.
