D1 Class 4-4-0 No. 494
D1 class locomotives were modified by Maunsell from Wainwright's original D Class, this loco was converted by Beyer Peacock in 1921. It is pictured here at Margate at the front of the Sunny South Express which ran from Northern cities to the Sussex and Kent coastal resorts. The rolling stock probably belongs to the LNWR.
