This is the original 1817 pump house plus 1838 extension built to accommodate steam powered beam engines. It was lowered and rebuilt in 1927 when the station went over completely to diesel power. Maps from 1937 show the lock with the bed of the canal dry from just below it towards Wendover but there is no lock on those from about 1900. In the picture it appears to be used as a stop lock with only one pair of gates at the top, though provision was made for gates at the tail.
